The Band
Piper’s Share came into being over 10 years ago, initially playing
at concerts and Northumbrian Evenings, before expanding into the
successful ceilidh band it is today. We play traditional tunes from
Northumberland, from North of the Border, Ireland and beyond.
The Ceilidh
Dances taught by the caller are generally what are known as ‘set’
dances. These are either in longway sets (or groups) of 4, 5 or 6
couples or square sets with 4 couples. We would normally include
some of the more well-known dances such as ‘Dashing White Sergeant’,
‘Gay Gordons’ and ‘Strip the Willow’ but of course, can tailor the
dances to suit the occasion.
The beauty of holding a ceilidh after, for example, a wedding
celebration, is that individuals of all ages can take part and enjoy
themselves, and no prior knowledge of the dances are needed, as our
caller will teach you all you need to know!
A ceilidh is equally appropriate for any other sort of celebration
such as a birthday, wedding anniversary or any sort of
village/community function. If a more leisurely evening is
preferred, dances can be interspersed with musical interludes by the
band, at your discretion.
We are happy to offer any advice that you may require for your
specific occasion.
